The Google Desktop team recently announced the release of a Google Docs Gadget for Google Desktop that allows the users to search and open their Google documents from their desktop. To add on, a drag-and-drop option is included to enhance the addition.
According to the Official Google Docs blog, Google Docs is a free web-based suite that has word processing, spreadsheets and presentation applications.
This new feature is one step ahead of the “Docs gadget in Gmail,” and works with Linux and Windows versions of Google Desktop Gadgets, according to Google Product Manager Ronald Ho and James Yum, a desktop engineer, in a blog post.
Google says:
“We all use Google Docs (https://www.techdrunk.com/google-launches-google-docs-templates-directory/328/) here at work, which shouldn’t surprise anyone. Speaking personally (though with a slight bias), we think Google Docs works well in a fast-paced work environment because you can create and share documents freely without worrying about saving them to your machine, passing around email attachments, and of course, finding them later. However, there are times when we just need to bring up the same few documents continually throughout the day. Some examples are a data entry spreadsheet, a technical manual, or that steamy romance novel you’ve been secretly penning during work hours. You can instead bring up the gadget and, in an instant, search and open your Google documents (hint: pressing the shift key twice brings up all your hidden Desktop gadgets).
Last month, an independent study showed that OpenOffice’s free office suite to be five times more popular among adult US Internet users than Google Docs. OpenOffice.org was used by 5 percent of people, versus Google Docs’ 1 percent, according to a six-month study conducted by market research firm ClickStream Technologies.”
