iPhone is geared up with some cons and some pros! The fact is that iPhone lacks the ability to display status indicators when you will keep the phone in sleep mode. So it always requires a press of button to know about minute details. For example, if you want to know about the battery juice, then you need to press the Home button, in order to check the status of the battery! The whole process further drains up the battery as the press of the button lights up the whole display!
The second annoying thing is that the glaring bright display can act as a hurdle in places like a movie theater, where viewers may grow annoyed with the over glowing feature..
In a recent patent filing by Apple, the company details how status indication could be achieved on an iPhone and one will not have to keep the display powered everytime or press a Home button everytime!
“The primary backlight system may block light from the secondary backlight system except for those one or more regions,” the filing explains. “Thus, the size and shape of the status indicator may be set by sizing and shaping the transparent or semitransparent regions of the primary backlight system. In addition to setting the size and shape of the icon, the color of the icon may also be set by adjusting the color of the light provided by the secondary backlight system.” –Apple
