Safari Gets Updated for the Second Time

Apple
It is for the second time in a period of less than two weeks, that Apple Inc. has updated its Safari Web browser by issuing a version 3.2.1.

The first update was declared on Nov 13 when the company added anti-phishing protection and patched 11 security vulnerabilities into the browser. More than two third of the changes were critical. But Apple preferred to do make minor changes this time, which were all about unspecified stability improvements.

The terse notice on the Apple Website includes a link to the apple security update page. This is the page where company usually provides security advice related to such updates. But this time, there was no listing for Safari 3.2.1.

There were few complaints about Safari 3.2 related to its frequent crashes especially after the anti-phishing feature was enabled in it. Some users are saying that Safari 3.2.1 is released to fix up the problems faced in the earlier version.

There is one thread on the Safari support forum titled “Safari 3.2 is unusable- Spontaneously Quits”. It has more than 100 messages and has been viewed around 4,000 times ever since it was launched on Nov. 13. Some reports were also found early Monday evening stating that day’s update had stopped browser crashes. One user said that Safari 3.2 had not crashed for him. While other users running PithHelmet, which is a third-party ad blocking plug in complained that 3.2 update frequently crashed.

Apple has updated both Mac OS X and Windows versions of Safari 3.2.1. Now Mac OS X users can download and install 3.2.1 by using Safari’s built-in update feature or on Windows by running a different Apple software update utility.
