All this while, you must have glued to your television sets and have heard about the terrorists using ‘satellite phones’ for communication! In fact it was one of the many devices that were found in the investigation process from a trawler abandoned on the high seas.
As it turns out, the gadget that is found in the whole investigation done by Mumbai police forms one of the most crucial pieces of evidence linked to the terror attacks on Mumbai
Assumptions are made that the satellite phone will surely provide some proof about the identity of the terrorists; as it has been discovered that a lot of calls have been made to Karachi before and after the whole incident.
According to various reports, it has been said that Thuraya-to-Thuraya satellite phones were used by these terrorists, in order to make sure that there was no proof of the communication that was held between them and the ones that are living in Karachi and guiding them.
Satellite phones are the devices that are generally operated with the help of International Marine Satellite (Inmarsat) Communication, for which the Land Earth Station (LES) is located at Arvi, India.
It has been reported that the services to these satellite phones that were used by the terrorists in the Mumbai terror attacks were provided by ‘Thuraya,’ which covers 99 countries including India.
Popular companies that offer satellite phone services are Iridium, Globalstar, and Dubai-based Thuraya. The last one was responsible in the mentioned case!
But now the question arises as to how can we restrict tech-savvy terrorists who use satellite phones? The answer is simple! Block them! The fact is that there are a lot of mobile phone jammers that are available and can obstruct the use of these devices.
