Sony has announced the launch of four new models in its range of VAIO notebooks targeted at both business and home entertaiment segments. The laptops features Intel’s Centrino 2 processor, which is an upgraded version from the original one launched in 2003. The new chips offer better multimedia performance, lower power consumption and enhanced Wireless networking capabilities with optional WiMax support .
Mr Mohit Parasher, General Manager – Sales and marketing, Sony India, said at a recent conference,“With the opportunity to watch movies, store music or pictures and share them with your family and friends, the VAIO expands the definition of a notebook to become the ultimate mobile entertainment device,”
Sony Vaio Z is the headlining model in the series and it is priced at Rs. 77, 760 ($1,800). It features a 13.1-inch widescreen display and a handy key board with conveniently spaced keys. Vaio Z is enhanced with XBRITE-Duraview LCD and G sensor shock protection Technology for protection against data loss and damage. The notebook comes with a carbon fiber case along with an optional Blu-ray Disc drive. The screen has a 1,600 pixel by 900 pixel resolution and it has an additional high definition multimedia interface (HDMI) connector for linking up the laptop up to a high-def TV. Additionally, a model with 128G-byte SSD (solid-state disk) is also available at the rate of Rs 99,360 ($2300).
Sony’s Vaio SR has similar features as Vaio Z, however it sports a slightly bigger 13.3-inch screen and an LED-backlight. Priced around $1400, the Sony Vaio SR notebook comes in five different color choices – night black, sunset pink, glossy pink, classic silver and glossy silver.
Vaio FW model possess an extra wide 16.4-inch screen and comes in different configurations from standard to premium. The premium model features the ability to play Blu-ray discs by providing high definition content in full 1080 HD resolution. This is applicable by connecting it to a compatible HDTV. The FW can also store data on high definition disks, and the price range for the standard will be around $1,000 and above while the premium model will start from $1,750.
Last but not the least is the the Vaio BZ which is a formidable combination of looks and performance. Targeted for the business segment, the 15.4″ laptop is equipped with an Intel Centrino 2 processor and spill-resistant keyboard. BZ also features a standard Windows Vista Business OS and is priced around $1000.
