Vodafone has announced its Voice SMS Service in India. The Director Marketing and New Business at Vodafone Essar, Harit Nagpal, was quoted as saying, “We are delighted that our subscribers will now have another option of reaching out to their friends, family and business associates.”
The service will now enable all Vodafone customers to send a Voice SMS message to any mobile subscriber throughout India at a nominal cost of 75 paise per minute. The service is available to all prepaid and postpaid customers of Vodafone.
The process involved in sending the message is a fairly simple one. All one has to in order to do the same is to press * and then dial the number of the person to whom you wish to send the message. Speak aloud your voice message for 30 seconds and then disconnect. Vodafone recipients can receive their Voice SMS by dialing *0*. You can also retrieve your old Voice SMS by dialing *1*. When a Vodafone recipient receives a Voice SMS, he/she can reply, forward, save or delete the same just like a normal SMS. Replying or forwarding the Voice SMS would cost the same, 75 paise per minute.
Non Vodafone subscribers will get a text SMS with an embedded DirectListen number, on dialing which they can go to the message directly. After listening to the Voice SMS, the message recipient can reply, forward or delete the same.
For recipients, listening to the Voice SMS for the first time would not change anything. However, subsequent retrieval of the same would be charged 75 paise per minute.
