Most of us must have got those annoying ads claiming that your computer is infected by a virus. FTC has now put a stop to scams and five anti-virus products involved in it.
As per the FTC’s complaint, the defendants used a trick of cheating internet advertising networks and other popular websites by carrying their advertisements. They claimed that they are placing their internet ads on behalf of legitimate companies and organizations. Defendants also said that it is because of hidden programming codes inserted in the ads, that consumers visiting the websites did not receive the right ads. Instead, they got to read advertisements that took them to the websites of these defendants. Visitors were offered computer scanning options for security and privacy issues. After scanning, visitors were told that there are lots of problems in their computers and they should buy defendant’s computer security products. But it has been found that all the scan results shown were entirely false.
WinFixer, WinAntivirus, DriveCleaner, ErrorSafe and XP Antivirus are the products behind the scam. Millions have been duped by the scams done by these companies and now consumers are searching for some gold and reliable programs.
