After making its international debut in early July, Apple iPhone is finally all set to reach the Indian sub-continent. The much awaited ‘phone + entertainment center’ is all set to take the Indian market by storm.
The two biggest mobile network carriers operating in India, Vodafone and Airtel are releasing the iPhone in August and September respectively. However, as of now, both the companies have decided to launch the 8GB model only, that is priced at Rs.11,500 to Rs.12,000, thus providing access to most of the Indian iPhone aspirants. The newly created fusion of Apple App Store and iTunes is also said to be available for Indian consumers. According, to sources, the apps that are available at the Apple App Store would also be conveniently priced, keeping the Indian market in mind. However, there is still a lot of confusion, whether, the Indian consumers will get a taste of 3G, the principal feature of the iPhone 3G.
The Indian market can still rejoice with the availability of GPS navigation system, that allows iPhone 3G users to use the GPS functionality to geo-tag the photos in their iPhones. Airtel is planning to make available the softwares that are available in the international markets to the Indian consumers, with the Apple iPhone 3G. It is also planning to launch the iPhone 3G in late August, presumably, on the 25th.
With Vodafone slated to release the Apple iPhone in mid August, it will obviously have a head start, when compared to Airtel’s launch time-table. However, it doesn’t seem to be affecting Airtel that much, mainly because they are very much confident about their aggressive advertising campaigns.
