Google has announced that Google Sync, their new service will now work with iPhone as well. Microsoft says that Google has licensed their Exchange ActiveSync protocol, which Google Sync is based on.
This service allows OTA syncing of Google Calender events as well as Gmail contacts for the Blackberry. But now users can enjoy these features for their iPhones as well. And it’s free! So if you have a Google account with you, you can set up these service in the ActiveSync and Exchange preferences on your iPhone. The feature will also work brilliantly with both first generation iPhones and iPhone 3Gs, but you will need to install firmware v2.2.
But it is still available in Beta mode. Here are the features from their official website:
- Synchronize your contacts. Get your Google contacts quickly and easily to your iPhone. With Sync, you can have access to your address book at anytime and place that you need it.
- Get calendar alerts. Using your iPhone’s native calendar, you can now access multiple Google calendars, and be alerted for upcoming appointments with sound or vibration.
- Always in sync. Your calendar and contacts stay synchronized whether you access them from your iPhone or from your computer. Add or edit contacts or calendar entries right on your device or on your Google account on the web.
