Imation has announced that its recordable Blu-ray discs will now be available in Indian market. The new TDK LoR discs have a recording speed of 4x and claim to reduce the recording time by half than the currently used 2x disc. The disc has the capacity of recording 25GB data within 25 minutes.
The new discs are available in four variants:
- BD- R25: Right once type single sided, single layer disc with 25 GB memory.
- BD- R50: Right once type single sided, dual layer disc with 50 GB memory.
- BD- RE25: Rewritable single sided, single layer disc with 25 GB memory.
- BD- RE50: Rewritable single sided, dual layer disc with 50 GB memory.
The BD discs have inorganic materials Silicon and Copper in 2-layer structure, which gets melt down by a laser beam during the recording process. Thus, they become a composite and form recording marks. The marks help the discs in achieving longer data sustainability in comparison to CDs and DVDs.
According to Sanjay Koul, BDD, Imation India Pvt. Ltd: “ BD discs are made to meet the increasing data storage and higher speed recording requirements. These are bare, cartridge free discs, which do not need a cumbersome cartridge to ensure reliability”.
Use of DURABIS 2 coating technology in discs protects them against scratches, fingerprint smudges and dirt. The TDK LoR Blu-ray discs are available at a starting price of Rs. 500.
