After having a pretty successful 2011, tablets are expected to have another dominating year come 2012. When Apple introduced revolutionary iPad in April 2010, it generated interest among consumers and competitors alike. Competitors for instance jumped into tablet market like never before, during the annual 2011 CES function alone more than a hundred tablets were showcased.
Expecting this trend to continue in 2012, CES officials have estimated another 50 to 100 tablets to be showcased at this years function. Top of everyones mind, not surprisingly, is iPad 3. Apple has promised to release the brand new iPad, loaded with brand new and improved iOS5. Not far behind are Amazon KindleFire, Aakash tablet and its commercial cousin UbiSlate 7. These are sure to turn some heads around. Moving away from tablet sector are Acer and Lenovo, both set to release their very own tablet PCs, or simply Ultrabook, loaded with upcoming Windows 8 Metro. Light weight and extremely portable, Ultrabooks are expected to offer quality competition to tablets. Windows 8 Metro is the next generation Microsoft OS, sporting a dual interface targeted at tablets as well as desktops, it runs on both Intel and ARM chips. Though manufacturers are currently having some problems with the power management aspect of it, which makes them rely more on Intel’s Clover Trail platform but expect them to sort it out pretty soon. Loaded with extremely fast IE10 Windows 8 Metro is a big step into the future.
The products mentioned in this article are minimal but, from what we know, there will be hoards of tablets and Ultrabooks released in 2012 ensuing a raging war in the tablet sector. One thing is for sure, tablets will not only have to fight off competing tablets but Ultrabooks as well. What does this mean to a product consumers? Well to be honest, it means, more options, at hopefully cheaper prices and a BIG smile.
