Visa and Visa Europe announced that they will be integrating Visa payWave with a range of (Near Field Communication) NFC-enabled SmartPhones from Samsung, LG and BlackBerry. Visa payWave is a mobile application developed by Visa for online payments at the point-of-sale.
“This is an important step for Visa, its financial institution partners and the mobile industry. In addition to issuing plastic magnetic stripe or chip-enabled payment cards, financial institutions can now consider offering their account holders a way to transform their SmartPhones into fully functional mobile payment devices,” stated Bill Gajda, Global Head of Mobile Product, Visa Inc.
This collaboration combines mobile device manufacturers, mobile operators and retailers merging it with financial institutions, ensuring that users will be able to pay bills through their SmartPhones. Visa has extensively tested the technical and usability aspects of Visa payWave, cognizant to the fact that transfer of money is still an extremely sensitive issue for many. Transactions made through Visa payWare are secure and compatible with global standard for chip-enabled payments. SmartPhones currently Visa payWare approved are Samsung Galaxy S II (NFC), LG Optimus NET NFC, BlackBerry Bold 9900, BlackBerry Bold 9790, BlackBerry Curve 9360 and BlackBerry Curve 9380.
